- Bob Richards & www.BuyUtah.com -

REALTOR®, CRS, GRI, B.S. Marketing, A.S. Management, Co-Owner, RE/MAX First Realty

Bob Richards has been a resident of St. George for over 14 years. A native of Salt Lake (Sugarhouse area) and the youngest of 6 children, Bob graduated from Highland High School in 1984 and later graduated in 1989 with an A.S. Degree in Business Management. In 1991, Bob graduated with Honors at Westminster College with a B.S. Degree in Marketing.

After high school, Bob served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the south Texas region with headquarters in San Antonio. He thoroughly enjoyed his service there and loves the people of Texas to this day. Bob makes every effort to go back to south Texas to see his lifelong friends and also owns property there.

While going to school, Bob co-owned a book store with his father in Bountiful which is about 12 minutes north of Salt Lake City. Bob's dad, Lorin, was retiring from being a Podiatrist after 37+ years and wanted something to "keep busy." It turned out to be a VERY successful business known as Temple View Book & Tape. A few years after Bob moved to St. George, they sold the store to a book publishing company.

In addition to going to school full time and working at the book store, Bob's main career focus was in hotel management. He worked at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake while finishing up high school and prior to his mission and upon his return, worked as a Sales Manager for The Inn At Temple Square on the corner of West Temple and South Temple in downtown Salt Lake.

Bob thoroughly enjoyed working in the hotel industry. He met many dignitaries such as former president George Bush, former president Ronald Reagan, Anwar Sadat, Neil Diamond, Buddy Rich, Journey, Karl Malden, countless flight attendants and pilots, U.S. Ambassadors and other heads of nations and countries as well as many church leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Bob's motto: "CONSIDER IT DONE!" For him, that is more than just a slogan or motto. It's a standard, a value, a way of life. Bob has learned through serving the hotel customer that they're not satisfied until they tell you. Whether it was an extra newspaper, an extra glass of orange juice or having their car warm and ready when they leave, Bob made sure that every one had a good experience, welcomed and appreciated.

"It's what people deserve," says Bob. "They expect a level of service and assistance that is above the standard. Whether it's selling a book, renting a hotel suite, or selling a home, honesty, respect, integrity, and ethics are on top of my list."

Bob is an avid golfer. Starting at the age of 8, he plays left handed like his Dad taught him. Bob was on the golf team for 3 years at Highland High and looked at golf as a possible profession. Maybe some day you'll see him on the Senior Tour. Since the time commitment is so great, Bob doesn't get a chance to get out much now but still loves the game. He even has a practice green and net in his back yard. "We have a fabulous selection of courses in southern Utah and Mesquite, Nevada and what's nice is you can play year round", says Bob. The fees are reasonable and more golf courses are on their way to our area making this a major hub for the golf enthusiast.

Bob moved to St. George Memorial Day weekend in 1992 and stayed at college housing known then as The Wedge. It was the only place available to rent at the time short term and was just enough motivation for Bob to hit the ground running and learn the market. "I had party college students above me so I had limited sleep", quotes Bob. "I had to sleep a few hours while they were at school and spent the rest of the time memorizing the area, streets, housing values, growth areas, and learn the business F-A-S-T!! I didn't want to fail and certainly wanted to improve my housing situation very quickly. Within 4 months of being in this new business, I purchased my first home!!"

In the Fall of 1992, Bob married Becky Duncan. A resident of Bountiful, Becky and Bob met at the gas station across the street from Bob's book store. No kidding!! She was racing in to get a drink before going to work and Bob had crossed 5th South to get a drink before opening the store. After a few years of dating and Bob being alone in St. George, they wed October 7, 1992 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Whoever said "absence makes the heart grow fonder" wasn't kidding.

Bob had a beautiful Sheltie named Jenny for almost 14 years. His dad received Jenny as payment for medical services. When Bob came home after a horrid day at College, there was this small fur ball at the bottom of the stairs whimpering. It was love at first sight. "We were thick & thin," remarked Bob. "I told her things nobody else knows and she was my bud." On Thanksgiving morning in 2000, Jenny passed away of kidney failure. To this day and forever, Bob misses his Jenny. A few years ago, Bob & Becky found a black lab / border collie dog named Holly. "She's our child with 4 legs" kids Becky.

In the Fall of 1999, Bob & Becky were blessed with the opportunity of adopting two wonderful children, Tere and Christopher. In 2006, they adopted David who is their half brother. "We are now a complete family," says Becky. "These children may have come into this world from a different father and mother, but we know they're ours." If you ever have the opportunity to talk to Bob about how this came about, you'll want to take advantage of it. It's truly a modern day miracle.

"My wife and my children are my prized possessions", says Bob. "No success can compensate for failure in the home and so I try to teach my children correct principles of honesty, fair dealing, charity, kindness and concern for their fellow man." "We are active members of our Church." We strive to be closer each day to our Savior, Jesus Christ and become like Him."

Bob's parents, Lorin & Patti Richards, are full time residents of St. George and live just a few short miles from Bob's home. They are active adults lengthening their shuffle every day!!
